Buccal Massage in Connecticut
Most facial treatments work on the surface of your skin. Buccal massage works underneath it. Using a gloved hand inside the mouth and my other hand shaping from the outside, I release and lift the deep muscles of the face that a surface treatment never reaches. It's the signature of what I do at The Lifted Face in Redding, Connecticut.
If you've been curious about a natural, hands-on alternative to injectables, one that works with your facial muscles instead of freezing them, this page walks you through it.
What Is Buccal Massage?
Buccal massage (from "bucca," the Latin word for cheek) is an intraoral facial massage. Using a gloved hand, the practitioner works the muscles of the cheeks, jaw, and mid-face from inside the mouth while the other hand sculpts from the outside. Working from both sides at once is what sets it apart from a surface facial: it reaches the deep muscles a topical treatment can't touch.
Clients often tell me their face feels lighter and looks more lifted and awake, with tension released in places they didn't realize they were holding it.
The Sculptural Face Lifting Method
At The Lifted Face, buccal work is part of the Sculptural Face Lifting method, the intraoral, deep-tissue approach developed by Yakov Gershkovich and used by facialists for celebrity clients worldwide. I trained and certified with Yakov in spring 2024.
This is closer to bodywork than to a spa facial. Each session follows a deliberate sequence of releasing, draining, and lifting movements. I treat the face for what it is: a structure of muscle, fascia, and lymph that responds to trained hands.
What It Can Help With
People come to me for different reasons. Commonly:
- A more lifted, sculpted look through the cheeks, jawline, and mid-face
- Release of tension in the jaw and around the TMJ area, where many of us clench without realizing it
- Better circulation and lymphatic drainage, which can leave skin looking brighter and less puffy
- A needle-free option for people who'd rather avoid injectables, or do fewer of them
I'll always be honest about this: it's a wellness and beauty treatment, not a medical procedure. It supports how your face looks and feels; it isn't a treatment for any medical condition.
What to Expect
Your first visit usually starts with a short consultation so I understand your face and your goals. The intraoral portion is done with a fresh glove. It's gentle but deep, and most people find it surprisingly relaxing. I finish each session with outside sculpting and drainage. Many clients start with a consultation or a single session, then settle into a regular rhythm.
The work is cumulative. Like training a muscle, a series builds on itself, which is where most people see the biggest change.

Meet Annmarie
The Lifted Face is my studio. I'm a Licensed Massage Therapist, licensed in the Sculptural Face Lifting Method and Buccal Massage, with over a decade in the natural skincare world. Before skincare, my work began in sports rehabilitation, personal training, and massage therapy, studying the body, its patterns, and the stories held in muscle and fascia.
My approach blends technical training with an intuitive, restorative touch, so each session is both a treatment and an experience. My lifelong love of all things natural led me to co-found Annmarie Skin Care in 2009. Over the years I've studied herbalism and become a devoted steward of the land, growing and foraging the botanicals that inspire my work. I believe every person can fall so deeply in love with their body's natural form that fillers and harsh chemicals start to feel unnecessary, because true beauty radiates from care, connection, and honoring what's already there.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is buccal massage?
Buccal massage is an intraoral facial massage. The practitioner works the deep muscles of the cheeks and jaw from inside the mouth with a gloved hand while sculpting from the outside. It reaches muscles a surface facial can't, which is why it can leave the face looking more lifted and sculpted.
Does buccal massage really lift your face?
It doesn't change your bone structure. By releasing deep muscular tension and improving circulation and lymphatic drainage, it can make the face look more lifted, contoured, and awake. Results build over a series of sessions.
Is buccal massage a replacement for Botox or fillers?
It's a natural, needle-free alternative that works with your facial muscles rather than freezing them. Many of my clients use it instead of injectables, or alongside less-frequent treatments. It's a beauty and wellness service, not a medical procedure.
Can buccal massage help with jaw or TMJ tension?
Many of my clients carry a lot of tension in the jaw, and the intraoral work can help release it and leave the area feeling looser. I run a wellness studio, though, so this isn't medical treatment for a TMJ disorder. For a diagnosed condition, see your doctor or dentist.
Does it hurt?
Most people find it gentle and even relaxing, though the deep-tissue release can feel intense in spots that hold tension. I work with a fresh glove and at a pressure that's right for you.
How often should I come?
Because the effects are cumulative, a series is where you'll see the most. Many clients start with a consultation or a single session, then settle into a regular rhythm.
